Mental Health Awareness T-shirt Design
I hope to communicate the awareness of mental health to students who are informed of this issue. Mental health is a serious matter which should be looked upon. My design which is communicating the dangers of mental health and the way to help people from it is edifying because mental health is a dangerous issue that can cause death. Japan, a country with one of the highest suicidal rate, with 14.9 people committing suicide per 100,000 people, mainly and mostly being because of mental depression. As shown from my design, the brain of one person is becoming a dry soil, demonstrating the danger of untreated mental health like a soil drying out, unable to plant any crops. This kind of situation has to be treated with an action: comfort. In the book of Matthew, it says, “Love your neighbor as yourself” (NIV, 22.39). People should treat others as if treating oneself with care and caution. I also drew an achievement lock expressing how an act of comfort and kindness can help a person to overcome unhealthy mental health. If anyone wants to help, people should start with a simple act of comfort and care. My design could be misinterpreted about knowledge rather than mental health because of the illustration of the brain. I think they should understand the phrase on the design alerting mental health problems or understand that the right side of the brain is drying like dry soil. Although my message may not be original since many people are aware of the massive issue of mental health; however, my design of the t-shirt is original because before I began designing, I searched several places including Google for even the slightest similarity as my design and no results were found. I tried my best to find an original design so it gives different and special meaning to art itself, helping to catch the attention of viewers. I hypothesise that the impact of my design on the students would not only make them empathise with the people with mental health issues, but start an action which contributes to helping the people in need. |
